In this two-week pilot study, the lidocaine patch 5% added to analgesic therapy significantly reduced pain and improved function in osteoarthritis patients with knee pain. Nearly 40% experienced at least a 50% improvement in pain, stiffness, function, and composite scores. The lidocaine patch 5% was well-tolerated with minimal adverse events, providing analgesia without local anesthesia. This study marks the first to demonstrate the effectiveness and safety of the lidocaine patch 5% in osteoarthritis pain, presenting a promising topical analgesic option for this patient population.
