Lifestyle mediators of associations among siestas, obesity, and metabolic health

This study aimed to determine the association between siestas and obesity, considering siesta duration and whether siesta traits or lifestyle factors mediate this association. The study found that long siestas were associated with higher BMI, waist circumference, fasting glucose, blood pressure, and prevalence of MetS. The short-siesta group had a lower probability of having elevated SBP. Factors such as smoking, delays in nighttime sleep and eating schedules, higher energy intake at lunch, and siesta location mediated the association between siestas and obesity/MetS. The study concludes that siesta duration is relevant to obesity/MetS and that lifestyle factors should be considered in siesta-related health studies.
