The randomized controlled trial assessed the effectiveness of dual-focus soft contact lenses (DFSCL) in controlling myopia progression among 64 Chinese schoolchildren aged 8–12 years. After 12 months, the DFSCL group showed a reduced axial length (AL) growth of 0.23 mm compared to 0.33 mm in the single-vision spectacles (SVS) group (P = 0.004). However, no significant difference in spherical equivalent refraction (SER) change was found between the two groups (P = 0.308). While DFSCL initially reduced AL growth in the first three months, no significant long-term benefits were observed. Common side effects included occasional near-vision blurriness and ocular discomfort.

A nationwide Colombian study identified 4,608 healthcare encounters related to childhood interstitial and diffuse lung disease (chILD) from 2016–2024. Average annual prevalence was 3.32 per 100,000 children, highest among infants and with a secondary rise during adolescence. Reported cases increased annually (IRR 1.022), while declining markedly during the COVID-19 pandemic.
