The study highlighted very rare cases of acute liver injury associated with SARS-CoV-2 vaccines, predominantly showing autoimmune-like features. These injuries, more frequent after the second dose, occurred 1–147 days post-vaccination. Raised immunoglobulin G levels and specific autoantibodies were common. Corticosteroids, often combined with azathioprine, yielded favorable outcomes in most cases. However, severe cases requiring liver transplantation or resulting in death were also reported. This condition was termed SARS-CoV-2 vaccine-associated liver injury (SVALI).
