Liver Fibrosis Strongly Predicts Cardiovascular and Heart Failure Death

In this cohort of 8,689 individuals (mean age 69.7), higher FIB-4 index scores were linked to significantly increased cardiovascular mortality over 9.3 years, independent of systemic congestion (PVS). Cardiovascular death rates were highest in the high FIB-4 group (14.5/1000 person-years). Findings highlight a strong liver-heart axis, especially in heart failure-related deaths, emphasizing the prognostic role of liver fibrosis.
