Antibiotic-impregnated calcium-sulphate granules improved DFO outcomes significantly. This double-blind, placebo-controlled trial with 20 patients showed a 25% infection rate in the active treatment arm versus 100% in the placebo group (p=0.010). The study, which aimed to reduce major amputations and infections, demonstrated the efficacy and cost-effectiveness of local antibiotic delivery in managing diabetic foot osteomyelitis (DFO).
