Aflibercept using a treat-and-extend (TAE) regimen maintains visual acuity and reduces macular thickness in Japanese nAMD patients over 5 years. In a study of 126 eyes, 44% discontinued treatment, but 33% experienced recurrence. Higher injection counts correlated with recurrence risk. Patients with occult macular neovascularization and subretinal hemorrhage had higher macular atrophy risk. These findings support TAE as an effective long-term approach for nAMD.
