
The cohort study of 79 patients with type 1 diabetes who underwent islet transplantation showed significant improvements in glycaemic control, with reductions in HbA1c and insulin requirements. Median graft survival was 3.9 years, and 44% achieved insulin independence for a median of 6 years. Graft survival rates were 86% at 1 year and 40% at 20 years. Immunosuppressive-related adverse events occurred in 44% of patients.
