A retrospective cohort study was conducted to investigate whether the use of long-acting insulin analogues increases the risk of diabetic retinopathy (DR) in patients with type 2 diabetes. The study included patients who initiated either long-acting insulin analogues or Neutral Protamine Hagedorn (NPH) insulin. The results showed that there were no significant differences in the risk of incident DR between the two groups. The adjusted hazard ratios for proliferative DR and non-proliferative DR also did not show any substantial differences. Therefore, the study provides reassurance about the safety of long-acting insulin analogues in relation to incident DR in patients with type 2 diabetes.
