Longitudinal hemodynamic evaluation of uncomplicated twin pregnancies according to chorionicity: physiological cardiovascular dysfunction in monochorionic twin pregnancy

This study compared the longitudinal changes in maternal hemodynamics between dichorionic and monochorionic twin pregnancies. Hemodynamic evaluations were performed at three different stages of pregnancy. The results showed that maternal cardiac output and cardiac index were significantly higher in the second trimester for MC twin pregnancies than for DC twin pregnancies. Maternal hemodynamic changes were detected early in both twin pregnancies, but in MC twin pregnancies, there was a sustained increase in cardiac output to support higher placental growth, followed by a reduction in cardiovascular performance in the third trimester.
