A recent study conducted at a single academic institution assessed the long-term performance of cochlear implants (CIs) in patients with neurofibromatosis type 2 (NF2). The study revealed that despite the recurrent nature of NF2, cochlear implants continue to provide significant audiological benefits. Among 14 CI cases studied from 2001 to 2022, 35.7% resulted in disuse or explantation, with larger tumor size being a key factor impacting CI usage outcome. On average, patients benefited from 13.85 years of CI utility and a maximum improvement of 45.0±29.0 dB in pure tone average.
