Low Prostate Risk with Testosterone Replacement Therapy in Men with Hypogonadism

A recent placebo-controlled, double-blind randomized clinical trial involving 5246 men (aged 45-80) with hypogonadism aimed to assess the impact of testosterone replacement therapy (TRT) on prostate health. Conducted at 316 US sites from May 2018 to February 2022, results revealed no significant difference in incidences of high-grade prostate cancer, any prostate cancer, acute urinary retention, invasive prostate procedures, or pharmacologic treatment between TRT and placebo groups. The study suggests that, in carefully evaluated middle-aged and older men, TRT poses minimal risk for adverse prostate events, offering valuable insights for informed TRT.
