A study investigated patellofemoral joint (PFJ) contact forces in individuals who had undergone anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction (ACLR) and were cleared to return to sports (RTS). The study compared PFJ contact forces during side-step cutting tasks between the ACLR limb, contralateral limb, and a control group. The results showed that the peak PFJ force was lower in the ACLR limb compared to the contralateral and control limbs. Additionally, the ACLR limb exhibited lower knee flexion angles and quadriceps force compared to the other limbs. These findings suggest that despite rehabilitation and RTS clearance, differences in PFJ contact forces persist after ACLR, indicating the need for more effective rehabilitation strategies.
