In vivo and in vitro analyses revealed recovery of TCA cycle and glucose metabolism in LVAD-supported patients. Citraconate, a novel TCA regulator, was elevated in failing hearts but normalized post-LVAD. While it enhanced SDH activity, its isomer, itaconate, suppressed it. This first-of-its-kind study highlights the myocardial biochemical recovery under LVAD and the regulatory role of citraconate.
