MAFLD Linked to Brain Changes and Cognitive Decline

MAFLD was associated with increased white matter hyperintensity (WMH) risk over 4.1 years in 2,155 middle-aged adults from the Ansan cohort. Hepatic steatosis independently predicted WMH regardless of metabolic status. Lower liver attenuation index values correlated with executive function decline, particularly in non-obese individuals (BMI <25 kg/m²). However, no significant brain volume changes were observed.
