MALAT1 as a potential salivary biomarker in oral squamous cell carcinoma through targeting miRNA‐124

In a groundbreaking study, scientists have found a potential diagnostic tool for oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) in the saliva. The long non‐coding RNA "MALAT1" was identified as a significant indicator of OSCC, showing higher expression levels in patients compared to healthy individuals. Additionally, the study revealed a correlation between MALAT1 and microRNA‐124, a critical target in OSCC. The findings suggest that salivary MALAT1 could serve as a valuable biomarker, exhibiting 95% sensitivity and 90% specificity in distinguishing OSCC from healthy subjects. This breakthrough offers hope for early detection and treatment of oral cancer.
