Malnutrition and cerebral intraparenchymal damage in patients with thrombosis of dural sinuses and/or cerebral veins

In a study on cerebral venous thrombosis (CVT), researchers found that malnutrition, identified by the Prognostic Nutritional Index (PNI), was prevalent in 72.7% of CVT patients and linked to an increased risk of cerebral intraparenchymal damage (CID). The study, involving 165 patients, revealed PNI and gender as significant predictors for CID. The constructed nomogram model demonstrated clinical significance and reliability in predicting CID risk. Early malnutrition assessment and personalized nutritional treatment could improve outcomes for CVT patients. The findings emphasize the importance of addressing malnutrition in managing this uncommon cerebrovascular disease.
