Management of Advanced Pulmonary Sarcoidosis

Management of Advanced Pulmonary Sarcoidosis

The phrase "advanced sarcoidosis" refers to sarcoidosis that poses considerable risk of organ failure or mortality. Advanced sarcoidosis frequently affects the lungs and is referred to as "advanced pulmonary sarcoidosis" (APS), including advanced pulmonary fibrosis, bronchiectasis, infections, and pulmonary hypertension. APS affects only a small percentage of sarcoidosis patients, yet it is the primary cause of poor outcomes, including mortality. The significant patterns of APS are discussed in this paper, focusing on current management and potential options for improved outcomes for this most severe sarcoidosis phenotype.
