
A recent systematic review examined the effectiveness of mandibular advancement appliances with maxillary expansion devices for treating pediatric obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Analysis of six studies involving children and adolescents under 16 suggested that these devices may reduce the apnea-hypopnea index (AHI) and respiratory disturbance index (RDI), improve sleep quality, and increase oxygen saturation post-treatment. However, the limited study quantity and quality warrant cautious interpretation of results. The review underscores the need for larger, well-designed randomized controlled trials to establish robust evidence. Future studies should include patient selection based on thorough orthodontic assessments and consider long-term follow-up to better evaluate effectiveness.
