Mapping Schizophrenia's Genetic Risk to Brain Cell Types Identified

Brain cell types associated with schizophrenia have been identified. Combining data from a large genome-wide association study and single-nucleus RNA sequencing, researchers mapped genetic risk to 109 specific brain cell types, including cortical and subcortical neurons. This approach also revealed the involvement of adaptive immune cells in multiple sclerosis and microglia in Alzheimer’s disease, highlighting the technique's reliability for studying genetic risks in various neurological conditions.
