A retrospective cohort study spanning 30 years examined the risk of future diabetes in women diagnosed with gestational diabetes (GD). Researchers found that women diagnosed during twin gestations had a significantly lower risk of developing diabetes than those with singleton pregnancies. The study, including 13,770 mothers, showed that 3.3% were diagnosed with GD during twin pregnancies and 96.7% during singletons. Notably, the twin-gestation group exhibited lower rates of diabetes and prediabetes, even after accounting for factors like age, ethnicity, and fertility treatments. These findings highlight potential protective factors associated with twin pregnancies.
