A study examined the association between unprocessed red meat, processed meat, and poultry consumption and type 2 diabetes risk across 31 cohorts from diverse regions. The study included 1,966,444 adults, identifying 107,271 new cases of type 2 diabetes over a median follow-up of 10 years. Increased consumption of unprocessed red meat, processed meat, and poultry was linked to a higher incidence of type 2 diabetes, with hazard ratios of 1.10, 1.15, and 1.08 per respective serving sizes. The findings were consistent in North America, Europe, and the Western Pacific, suggesting that reducing meat intake, particularly processed and unprocessed red meats, could lower diabetes risk and inform public health recommendations.
