Medical Professionals’ Perspectives on Risky Play and Child Resilience

The study explores how emergency room doctors and nurses (n=56) across Canada perceive children's risky play. Thematic analysis revealed three key benefits: perseverance through failure, distress tolerance, and autonomy. While practitioners supported intervention in cases of severe injury risk, they emphasized the importance of allowing children to test their limits. Findings highlight the role of risky play in fostering long-term emotional and physical resilience.
