Membranous urethral length and urinary incontinence following robot‐assisted radical prostatectomy

A recent study reveals a crucial link between preoperative membranous urethral length (MUL) and postoperative urinary incontinence (UI) in men undergoing robot-assisted radical prostatectomy (RARP) or robot-assisted laparoscopic prostatectomy (RALP). Six studies involving 970 patients found that a longer MUL, measured via MRI, significantly reduced the odds of UI at 12 months post-surgery. The findings suggest that MRI assessment of MUL should be considered prior to RARP/RALP to inform treatment decisions for men in this group.
