Meningococcal ACWYX Conjugate Vaccine in 2-to-29-Year-Olds in Mali and Gambia

In a phase 3 trial, researchers evaluated the safety and immunogenicity of NmCV-5, a pentavalent meningococcal conjugate vaccine targeting serogroups A, C, W, Y, and X. Participants aged 2 to 29 years were randomly assigned to receive a single dose of NmCV-5 or the quadrivalent vaccine MenACWY-D. The study found that NmCV-5 was non-inferior to MenACWY-D regarding immune response for the four shared serogroups (A, C, W, and Y). NmCV-5 also showed effective immune responses for serogroup X. No significant safety concerns were identified. This study suggests that NmCV-5 could be an effective and safe option for preventing epidemic meningitis in the African meningitis belt.
