Children with congenital heart disease (CHD) face a significant mental health burden, with 35.1% (95% CI, 34.0%–36.1%)experiencing mental health conditions by age 18. This incidence was notably higher than the general population, with an adjusted hazard ratio (aHR) of 1.64 (95% CI, 1.58–1.71). Mental health issues were also more prevalent in children with severe or single-ventricle CHD and males. The study found elevated rates of severe stress reactions, attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder, intellectual disability, and autism spectrum disorder in the CHD cohort compared to other groups. These findings emphasize the importance of addressing mental health in CHD management.
