Metabolic syndrome as a risk factor for the development of kidney dysfunction

This study explored the relationship between chronic kidney disease (CKD) and metabolic syndrome (MetS) through a meta-analysis of 24 studies involving 6,573,911 participants. The results showed a significant association between MetS and an increased risk of CKD, albuminuria or proteinuria, and rapid decline in kidney function. The risk intensified with a higher number of MetS components. However, gender-specific subgroups exhibited varied associations. The findings highlighted MetS as a substantial risk factor for kidney dysfunction, emphasizing the importance of monitoring and suggesting potential benefits from lifestyle changes and targeted interventions.
