Methylmalonic Acid Linked to Depression via Inflammation

A study analyzing 7,866 US adults from NHANES 2011–2014 found a positive, linear association between methylmalonic acid (MMA) levels and depression risk. Inflammatory markers, including white blood cells, neutrophils, and alkaline phosphatase, mediated this link. These findings suggest MMA may play a role in depression pathogenesis through inflammation.
