Metoprolol Reduces Mortality in Sepsis-Induced Cardiomyopathy

The study explored the impact of metoprolol treatment on mortality in sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SICM) patients, using data from the MIMIC-IV database. 1163 patients were analyzed, with 882 receiving metoprolol (MET group) and 281 not receiving it (NOMET group). Metoprolol treatment was associated with significantly lower 30-day, 1-year, and in-hospital mortality rates. The NOMET group had a higher risk of 30-day mortality (adjusted hazard ratio [HR] 4.280, P < 0.001) and 1-year mortality (adjusted HR 2.493, P < 0.001). Metoprolol treatment significantly reduced in-hospital mortality (odds ratio [OR] 5.076, P < 0.001). The results suggest that metoprolol may lower mortality in SICM patients, although further prospective studies are needed to confirm these findings.
