The study investigates the impact of miR-214 on inflammation and mucin 5AC (MUC5AC) expression in human nasal epithelial cells. The results show that miR-214 is increased in chronic rhinosinusitis with polyps (CRSwNP) and chronic rhinosinusitis without polyps (CRSsNP) tissues, and its inhibition prevents lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-mediated production of inflammatory cytokines and MUC5AC. Sirtuin 1 (SIRT1) is identified as a direct target of miR-214, and impairing SIRT1 reverses the effects of miR-214 inhibition on inflammation and MUC5AC expression. The study also suggests that the STAT3/GDF15 pathway may be involved in the regulation of miR-214 inhibitors on inflammation and MUC5AC expression.
