Molecular Epidemiology of Ceftriaxone-Resistant Enterobacterales

This study investigates the molecular epidemiology of ceftriaxone-resistant Enterobacterales bloodstream isolates from three Maryland hospitals between 2018 and 2022. Whole-genome sequencing identified extended-spectrum β-lactamase (ESBL) and ampC genes in most isolates, with ESBL genes detected in 80% of cases. The study also explored mutations in the c-ampC gene but found no significant contribution to increased AmpC production in E. coli. These findings highlight the importance of species-specific prevalence in antibiotic prescribing.
