To determine the incidence and impact of monopolar cautery use in a cohort of pediatric cochlear implant (CI) users. 190 patients underwent a surgical procedure following cochlear implantation in a single pediatric hospital. In which monopolar cautery was used, fifteen patients (7.9%) and 17 distinct surgical procedures were identified. The present study supports that monopolar cautery does not necessarily injure CI functionality.

In nine patients with severe, treatment-refractory MMP, tocilizumab reduced mean disease activity scores from 14.8 to 4.2. At final evaluation, 78% achieved partial remission and 11% complete remission.
