Multiple indicators of gut dysbiosis predict all-cause and cause-specific mortality in solid organ transplant recipients

This study explores the relationship between gut dysbiosis and mortality in solid organ transplant recipients (SOTR). Analyzing 1337 metagenomes from SOTR and 8208 from the general population, the study identifies microbiome patterns linked to all-cause and cause-specific mortality. Two microbiome patterns and 23 bacterial species were associated with mortality, with 19 species forming a balance indicative of mortality risk. These findings underscore gut dysbiosis' impact on long-term survival, though further research is needed to explore potential therapeutic interventions.
