Naming Nouns and Verbs in Aphasia: Impact of Stimuli Type and Lesion Location

This cross-sectional study examined naming abilities for objects and actions in stroke survivors with aphasia and non-brain damaged controls. It explored how noun-verb dissociation correlates with aphasia type and lesion location. Despite evidence that action naming is challenging for both clinical populations and healthy individuals, the study found no significant difference in naming performance between static and dynamic stimuli. The results support the notion that aphasia often leads to a dissociation between naming nouns and verbs, but further investigation is needed to understand how dynamic stimuli might affect action naming.
