The study investigated the neuropsychiatric effects of dolutegravir in children and adolescents with HIV. Researchers analyzed data from the ODYSSEY trial, which included 707 participants. They found that while the overall number of neuropsychiatric events was low, more participants in the dolutegravir group reported psychiatric events and suicidal thoughts compared to the standard-of-care group. Notably, caution is advised due to the study's open-label nature. The study suggests that clinicians and policymakers should consider implementing screening for suicidality in children and adolescents receiving dolutegravir-based treatment. Other mood-related and sleep problems did not significantly differ between the treatment groups.
