New Diagnostic Criteria for Gestational Diabetes and Hyperglycemia Established

In a study, new diagnostic criteria for gestational diabetes and gestational hyperglycemia were developed. A retrospective analysis of 500 patients undergoing a 75‐g 1‐h glucose challenge test (GCT) in early pregnancy led to the establishment of these criteria. For the 75‐g 2‐h glucose tolerance test (GTT), the criteria include fasting plasma glucose ≥5.4 mmol/L, 1‐h plasma glucose ≥10.5 mmol/L, and 2‐h plasma glucose ≥8.4 mmol/L. The study revealed a prevalence of 11.1% for gestational diabetes and 13.6% for gestational hyperglycemia. These new criteria aim to improve detection and management in pregnant individuals.
