New insights into the interaction between polycystic ovary syndrome and psychiatric disorders: A narrative review

New research indicates a strong link between polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and psychiatric disorders, which may worsen the condition of patients. Factors such as hyperandrogenism, insulin resistance, obesity, and gut dysbiosis increase the risk of psychiatric disorders in PCOS patients, while these disorders, in turn, exacerbate the pathologic process of PCOS and complicate treatment. The study aims to shed light on the mechanisms underlying the interaction between psychiatric disorders and PCOS, offering potential ways to break this vicious cycle. However, more research is needed to validate these findings, as the field is still in its early stages.
