A cross-sectional study in Sichuan, China, explored the impact of functional tooth loss on the oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) in people aged 65–74. Using data from the Fourth National Oral Health Survey, researchers found that having ≤12 functional teeth positively influenced OHRQoL compared to more significant tooth loss. The study suggests that 16 remaining functional teeth may suffice for good OHRQoL and successful oral aging, challenging the previously established threshold of ≥20 teeth.
