New Study Reveals Radial Deviation of Subchondral Bone Density in Advanced Elbow Osteoarthritis

A recent study investigated subchondral bone density distribution in elbow osteoarthritis (OA) to understand stress patterns. Among 126 patients, advanced OA exhibited higher radial deviation (SBDratio) than early OA (9% difference). Factors influencing radial shift included cubitus valgus and severe osteophytes at the radiocapitellar joint. The study suggests a link between increased carrying angle and stress deviation. This insight into OA pathophysiology could impact treatment strategies, emphasizing the potential benefits of managing the radiocapitellar joint in certain patients with advanced elbow OA.
