New Study Sheds Light on the Role of Serum Albumin in Secondary Mitral Regurgitation

The study evaluated the relationship between serum albumin levels and outcomes in patients with heart failure and secondary mitral regurgitation. The randomized COAPT trial found that patients with low serum albumin levels had a higher risk of all-cause death compared to those with higher levels. However, there were no significant differences in HF hospitalizations or all-cause hospitalizations based on serum albumin levels. Patients treated with transcatheter edge-to-edge repair derived similarly robust reductions in both death and HF hospitalizations regardless of baseline albumin level.
