New Technology Offers Improved Safety and Performance in Measuring Intravascular Volume

The study investigated the safety and dynamic response of a wireless inferior vena cava (IVC) sensor implanted in sheep, aimed at assessing congestion in heart failure. The sensor was found to be safe and reliable in measuring changes in IVC area during volume infusion at acute and chronic observations, demonstrating its ability to detect volume accumulation consistently and reliably. The sensor was found to be more sensitive in detecting volume changes than right atrial pressure. Overall, the study suggests that the IVC sensor could be a promising tool in detecting congestion in heart failure with higher sensitivity than traditional methods.
