Newly diagnosed acute myeloid leukemia: quizartinib improves overall survival

The FLT3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITD) mutation is found in approximately 25% of acute myeloid leukemia (AML) patients and is associated with a negative prognosis. Recent findings from the phase III QuANTUM-First trial revealed that incorporating the selective FLT3 inhibitor quizartinib into initial treatment for these patients enhanced overall survival (OS). This data suggests that adding quizartinib to first-line therapy shows promise in improving outcomes for AML patients with FLT3-ITD mutations.
