The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) Director General, Dr Rajiv Bahl, has warned of the Nipah virus's high fatality rate, ranging from 40 to 70 percent, significantly higher than COVID-19's 2-3 percent. Dr Bahl explained that Nipah, a zoonotic virus transmitted from fruit bats, spreads through respiratory droplets, blood, and bodily fluids but is less transmissible than COVID-19. Kerala is currently facing its fourth Nipah outbreak, with six cases and two deaths reported.
