A phase 2–3 trial assessed nirmatrelvir–ritonavir, an antiviral treatment for mild-to-moderate Covid-19. Adults with confirmed Covid-19 symptoms within 5 days, fully vaccinated with risk factors, were randomly assigned nirmatrelvir–ritonavir or placebo. The primary endpoint, time to sustained alleviation of Covid-19 signs and symptoms, showed no significant difference between groups. Hospitalization or death rates were similar. Adverse events, including dysgeusia and diarrhea, were comparable. The study suggests nirmatrelvir–ritonavir doesn't significantly impact symptom duration or Covid-19 outcomes in this population.
