Study finds gastric bypass surgery linked to a higher risk of non-alcohol substance use disorder (SUD). Incidence rates per 1000 person-years showed 2.54 times higher risk for non-alcohol SUD in gastric bypass patients than controls. Other bariatric surgeries (vertical banded gastroplasty, gastric banding) didn't show significant associations. The study highlights the importance of considering this risk in postoperative care for gastric bypass patients.
