Noninvasive Bioelectronic Treatment of Postcesarean Pain

In a clinical trial conducted at an academic medical center, the efficacy of noninvasive high-frequency electrical stimulation devices was evaluated in reducing opioid use and managing pain post-cesarean delivery. Of the 134 participants in the trial, those in the functional device group exhibited significantly reduced opioid consumption (prior to discharge), were prescribed fewer opioids at discharge, and were less likely to require additional opioid prescriptions postpartum compared to those in the sham device group. The study, conducted with the intention-to-treat principle, also found that the functional device group reported similar pain levels to the sham group, implying that the device could effectively decrease opioid use without compromising pain management.
