Noninvasive Imaging vs. AVS in Primary Aldosteronism Diagnosis

Noninvasive Imaging vs. AVS in Primary Aldosteronism Diagnosis

The study demonstrated that post-dexamethasone [11C]metomidate ([11C]MTO) positron emission tomography-computed tomography (PET-CT) is noninferior to adrenal vein sampling (AVS) for predicting unilateral adrenalectomy outcomes in primary aldosteronism (PA). The accuracy of [11C]MTO was 71.3% for biochemical success, compared to 62.8% for AVS. [11C]MTO and [18F]CETO agreed in 29 of 31 patients (κ = 0.85). Molecular imaging offers a noninvasive, accurate alternative to AVS.
