
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a leading cause of respiratory failure, and oxygen therapy plays a crucial role in its management. Non-invasive positive pressure ventilation (NPPV) is a mechanical ventilation technique that supports patients with respiratory failure without the need for an artificial airway, utilizing a mask or nasal cannula. NPPV has been proven beneficial for COPD patients in distress. Additionally, high-flow nasal cannula (HFNC) oxygen therapy offers advantages such as reducing anatomical dead space, quickly correcting hypoxia, and improving patient tolerance. This study reviews the applications of NPPV and HFNC in COPD treatment, providing recommendations for optimizing mechanical ventilation strategies in clinical settings to enhance patient outcomes.
