A study using data from the Tasmanian Longitudinal Health Study identified links between specific occupational exposures and six novel cough subtypes. For example, aromatic solvents were associated with chronic dry cough, while biological dust linked to allergic cough. These associations were stronger than those found using standard cough definitions, suggesting new subclass-based frameworks may improve understanding of occupation-related cough mechanisms.
