A recent randomized double-blind trial found that extended-release oral ketamine reduced depression symptoms more effectively than a placebo in individuals with treatment-resistant depression. Of 168 participants, 43% on the highest oral ketamine dose relapsed, compared to 71% on placebo. Oral ketamine also had fewer dissociation issues, reported by only 12% of users, versus intranasal or injected forms. The at-home use of oral ketamine could enhance treatment accessibility and reduce costs, as noted in Nature Medicine.
